A Clear View of Your IT Risks
You protect your clients’ financial information. How clearly can you see the technology risks around it?
GreyFalcon helps Enrolled Agents, tax preparers, CPA firms, and accounting professionals understand what is working, where uncertainty remains, and which IT risks deserve attention first.
For Tax & Accounting Professionals
Technology risk is not always obvious from the owner’s side of the desk.
Your systems may appear to be working while important questions remain unanswered. Backups may be running without anyone testing recovery. Multi-factor authentication may protect some accounts but not others. A WISP or cyber-insurance application may describe controls that have never been verified.
A clearer view begins by separating what is known from what is assumed.
A practical review should help you identify:
- which safeguards are actually in place,
- where sensitive taxpayer and financial information is stored,
- who can access that information,
- whether business data can be recovered,
- where written policies and operating reality differ, and
- which improvements will reduce meaningful business risk.
The Clear View IT Risk Check
Can you answer these seven questions with confidence?
You do not need to know every technical detail. You should, however, be able to get a clear and supportable answer from whoever manages your technology.
1. Where is client information stored?
This includes workstations, servers, tax applications, Microsoft 365, cloud services, portable devices, email, and backup systems.
2. Who can access it?
Access should reflect current responsibilities, including employees, former employees, vendors, administrators, and outside support providers.
3. Is MFA protecting every important account?
Email, administrative accounts, remote access, cloud applications, and other sensitive systems should not depend on a password alone.
4. Can your firm recover its data?
Successful backup notices are not the same as a successful recovery. Restores should be tested and recovery priorities understood.
5. Does your WISP describe reality?
Responsibilities, safeguards, procedures, vendors, and technical controls in the written plan should match the environment your firm actually operates.
6. Can you support your insurance answers?
Statements about MFA, backups, endpoint protection, monitoring, encryption, and other controls should be accurate and verifiable.
7. Who owns the next action?
Identified risks need a responsible person, a sensible priority, and a clear decision—not another report that disappears into a folder.
Any uncertain answer is worth clarifying.
Uncertainty does not automatically mean your firm is unsafe. It means you do not yet have the evidence needed to make an informed decision.
GreyFalcon Approach
The goal is clarity—not a stack of products and a list of reasons to panic.
GreyFalcon approaches IT as practical business risk management. We look at support, cybersecurity, backup, Microsoft 365, WISP documentation, cyber-insurance requirements, and recovery as connected parts of the same operating environment.
Cyber Risk Review
Start with what concerns you today.
You do not need a network diagram or a technical diagnosis before scheduling. Start with the business issue, the unanswered question, or the requirement you are trying to meet.
WISP & Safeguards
Review whether written responsibilities and safeguards correspond to the systems, accounts, procedures, and vendors supporting the firm.
Cyber-Insurance Readiness
Clarify technical questions before renewal and identify where an application answer needs verification, explanation, or corrective action.
Backup & Recovery
Understand what is protected, what is not, whether restoration has been tested, and how the firm would continue after a disruption.
Identity & Access
Examine MFA, privileged accounts, employee access, remote access, account administration, and the process for staff changes.
Managed IT & Support
Identify recurring problems, aging equipment, unclear vendor responsibilities, deadline risks, and gaps in day-to-day technology management.
Practical Priorities
Separate urgent issues from longer-term improvements and establish the most sensible next action for the firm.

Keep the cloth. Use the conversation.
The microfiber cloth can help with your glasses. A Cyber Risk Review can help bring the assumptions, gaps, and priorities in your technology environment into better focus.
